Are You Listening Lucky?
Words and Music by Joe Ely
There she was, Way down South
She scared me to death
She Knocked me out
Are you listening Lucky?
Are you listening Lucky?
Are you listening Lucky?
She used to be your heart and soul
She had sweet breath.
She liked the blues.
She fit real tight.
Like 50 dollar shoes.
Are you listening Lucky?
Are you listening Lucky?
Are you listening Lucky?
She used to be your heart and soul
She wore cutoff jeans
In the July heat
When the sun went down
She cooked black-eyed peas.
She drove way too close
In her automobile
She said, "Hey, Joe,
Would you take the wheel?"
Are you listening Lucky?
Are you listening Lucky?
Are you listening Lucky?
She used to be your heart and soul
There she was, Way down South
she scared me to death
She Knocked me out

Don't Put a Lock on My Heart
by Eddie Beethoven
I got your letter in the mailbox, honey
Love flys, when your far away
When I get home I'll give you all a my money
Don't Put a Lock on My Heart
Don't Put a Lock on My Heart
Don't Put a Lock on My Heart!
Time will tell about romantic situations
Recollections are my only friend
I'll call you baby when I reach my destination
Don't Put a Lock on My Heart
Don't Put a Lock on My Heart
Don't Put a Lock on My Heart!
We can arbitrate with sexy incantations
Fill the void like we used to do
Growin' old is just a minor complication
Don't Put a Lock on My Heart
Don't Put a Lock on My Heart
Don't Put a Lock on My Heart!

Letter to L.A.
Words and Music by Joe Ely
You're afraid to lose your cover
Afraid to bare your soul
Like an Alfred Hitchcock lover
Who slowly goes out of control
Your love is like the city
Only shines at night
Your love has no pity
Baby baby that's all right
Your vanity is your castle
You're like a neon sign
And the poor lost souls in your shadows
You forget, they are friends of mine.
Your love is like the city
Only shines at night
Your love has no pity
Baby baby that's all right
Little Johnny Vain lost his head
While you broke a young girls heart.
And Cecil D. Demille once gave to you
The 'Cast of Millions' part.
Your love is like the city
Only shines at night
Your love has no pity
Baby baby that's all right
How many memories have you, honey,
Swept beneath the bed?
And how many roses have you, honey,
Watered till they bled?

Screaming Blue Jillions
Words and Music by Joe Ely
Here's a little ditty 'bout Screamin Blue Jillions
It was a stormy night there was a cyclone comin'
In a back street shack was a young boy strummin'
Born and raised in the Texas sand
Every thing he wore was second-hand
The life he lived was a cryin' shame.
So that very night he changed his name
He grabbed the cyclone with his hands.
That was the start of a hurricane band.
(Bass and Drums and a Guitar hail
Keyboard clickin his fingernails)
Come on baby, baby clap your hands
I know he needs your lovin' don't you understand
Come on baby, baby clap your hands
Shake it, shake it any way you can
Here come Blue like hell on wheels
Tryin' anything just to feel the feel
Love is the medicine that moves his soul
He gets his kicks from rock and roll
Look out baby its fixin to scream
Blue Jillions rockin'to Smithereens
Come on baby, baby clap your hands
I know he needs your lovin' don't you understand
Come on baby, baby clap your hands
Shake it, shake it any way you can

No Rope Daisy-O
Words and Music by Joe Ely
My Daisy she's crazy
Just like she seems
She climbs into bed and covers her head
And sneaks into my dreams
My Daisy she's lazy
Don't do nothin' but play
While I work like a slave
in an airplane wing
And bring home all the pay
Well I wish she'd take it easy
On poor delicate me
wish she'd take it easy
It'd be a better day for my Daisy and me!
My Daisy she's amazing
Sneaks in the movies for free
While me and the chauffeur
keep the motor runnin'
In a rented limosine.

My Baby Thinks She's French
Words and Music by Joe Ely
My Baby Thinks She's French
My Baby Thinks She's French
She plays a spanish guitar
At the coffee bar
She's takin' self-defence
My Baby Thinks She's French
She like the rose perfume
In the afternoon with her chocolate mints
She thinks she's French she likes to kiss and kiss
Her Flame is hard to Quench!
My Baby Thinks She's French
My Baby Thinks She's French
She drive a citroen car
She sings me Ooo wa wa
She's prone to accidents
My Baby Thinks She's French
Well its Paris this
And its Paris that, it makes me cringe
She thinks she's French she likes to kiss and kiss
Her Flame is hard to quench!
My Baby Thinks She's French
My Baby Thinks She's French
She reads Madamoselle
and when the clock strikes twelve
she wants to give me a pinch.....
My Baby Thinks She's French
She's a Texas doll
She likes shopping malls where the mood is French
With a southern drawl
They say come back y'all
and they never even flench!
My Baby Thinks She's French
My Baby Thinks She's French
She wants to start a fire
In the Eifel Tower
She's lost all common sense!!
My Baby Thinks She's French
She likes the Moulin Rouge
when the sun shines thru
she seldom squints....
she breeds magnificence

Lord Of The Highway
by Butch Hancock
With your fan belt slippin' and your bare tires squealin'
Every time you hit the road you think you're rich.
You're Lord of the Highway but the way you been drivin'
Sends them hitch-hikers divin' for the ditch
Well the law's on your trail and there's another law to lead you
And yet another law to let you down
And the laws of the game they're the very same that freed you
The Lord of the Highway gets around
You weren't the only one who saw the dark days a commin'
And you weren't the only one who shut em out.
It was nothin like your pride; it was somethin' deep inside
That saw the Shimmer felt the Shake and heard the Shout
So lay it on thick if you lay it on at all
If you're gonna do the job, do it right
If you gotta hit the road, leave your burdens behind you
The Lord of the Highway travels light.
With your air cleaner hissin' and your radiator steamin'
And the sun burnin' bugs to the glass
You're Lord of the Highway ,you're livin' you're not dreamin'
And if time really wants to, let it pass.
You'll be miles down the road when the toll bridge is burnin'
And your mirrors face foward at last.
You got what it takes to be Lord of the Highway
The Lord of the Highway travels fast.

Me And Billy The Kid
Words and Music by Joe Ely
Me and Billy the Kid never got along
I didn't like the way he cocked his hat
and he wore his gun all wrong.
We had the same girlfriend
and he never forgot it
She had a cute little Chihuahua
until one day he up and shot it
He rode the hard country down the New Mexico line
He had a silver pocketwatch that he never did wind.
He crippled the piano player
for playin' his favorite song
No, Me and Billy the Kid never got along
Me and Billy the Kid never got along
I didn't like the way he parted his hair
and he wore his gun all wrong
He was bad to the bone
All hopped up on speed.
I would've left him alone
If it wasn't for that Senorita
He gave her silver and he paid her hotel bill
But it was me she loved and she said she always will.
I'd always go and see her
when Billy was gone
Yeah, Me and Billy the Kid never got along
Me and Billy the Kid never got along
I didn't like the way he tied his shoes
and he wore his gun all wrong
One day I said to Billy
"I've got this foolproof scheme"
We'll rob Wells Fargo
"It's bustin at the seams."
I admit that I framed him but I don't feel bad
Cause the way I was livin' was drivin' me mad
Billy reached for his gun
but his gun was on wrong
Yeah, Me and Billy the Kid never got along
Me and Billy the Kid never got along
But I did like the way he swayed in the wind
While I played him his favorite song
Now my baby sings harmony with me
To "La Cucaracha"
She winds her silver pocket watch
And pets her new Chihuahua
I moved in to the Hotel and got a room with a shower
We lay and listen to that watch tick hour after hour
Outside I hear the wind
blowin' o so strong
Me and Billy the Kid never got along

Row of Dominoes
by Butch Hancock
Carmen must have been the Devils daughter
At least he taught her how to wear her clothes
And the boys folled her to the slaughter
Where they fell like a row of dominoes
They fell like a row of dominoes
Don't let your past drive you under
You know how a memory comes and goes
Well the years rolled away just like thunder
Where they fell like a row of dominoes
They fell like a row of dominoes
Won't you tell me how you been
Something more than you've been feelin fine
I'm havin that feelin again
Theres a whole lot more to lay on the line
A whole lot more to lay on the line
Share and share alike you know I love you
But I also love the way the wild wind blows
So don't set your dreams up there above you
Where they'll fall like a row of dominoes
They'll fall like a row of dominoes
They say a fool never knows what he misses
And a wise man never misses what he knows
What can I say your ten thousand kisses
Fell on me like a row of dominoes
They fell like a row of dominoes
Won't you tell me how you been
Something more than you've been feelin fine
I'm havin that feelin again
And the dominoes are standin in a line
Yes the dominoes are standin in a line

Silver City
Words and Music by Joe Ely
One day I went and left my home out in the West
Said I was headed for the Silver City
All along the line I was dreaming all the time
Dreaming of the shining Silver City
I kissed my love goodbye, said "Honey don't you cry"
For I'm going to the Silver City
If you could read my mind you'd know that I'll be fine
Soon as I do my time in the Silver City
Two weeks and a day I slowly made my way
To the gates of the Silver City
Finally one night I saw the flaming lights
I had made it to the Silver City
I honestly believed that I would be received
With the golden key to the Silver City
But my first night on the town, bandits knocked me down
They welcomed me to the Silver City
Musta been a freak mistake I said as I did wake
In the gutter of the Silver City
With a throbbing head I begged for my bread
Half-smiling as I bled in the Silver City
Oh, how can there ever be such misery in the streets
How can it ever be in the Silver City?
But soon enough I saw how easy it was to fall
And not be seen at all in the Silver City
Got caught for a crime I done; Policeman said "Son."
"Don't you try to run in the Silver City"
He locked me in his jail. No one to go my bail.
Oh when can I sail away fron the Silver City?
Now the moon crys through the bars; my love shines in the stars
I'm glad that she is far from the Silver City
If she could read my mind she'd know that I'll be fine
Soon as I do my time in the Silver City
(Judge said five to nine in the Silver City)
